Wellness coach Livia Marati's top healthy dining-out choices

One of the first areas I explore with my health coaching clients is their mindset around food. Outside of the common “I don’t know where to shop for healthy food” response, I also hear that eating healthy when dining out can be challenging.

One way I have them approach their lifestyle adjustments is with the 80/20 rule. We focus on how they can start to make intuitive, mindful food choices 80% of the time (for example, home cooking on weekdays) and leave the 20% (for example, dining out on weekends) to their choice.

We focus less on limiting, and more on making the experience of healthy eating enjoyable, and more important, realistic. What happens over time, is that clients become less likely to reach for fast food and junk food for that 20%.

Eventually, their “treat meals” and restaurant orders become higher quality, as they start to notice the impact that food has on their digestion, energy levels and more.

While majority of my meals are home cooked, I am always looking on the menu for healthy and nourishing items that I can grab for lunch and when out at a restaurant.

I love sharing these with my clients who are looking to continue their healthy habits even when dining out.

Last month, I highlighted my favorite spots to grocery shop on island for healthy food. As a follow-up, this month I’m breaking down my top picks for dining out:

Fu’una Cultures

Located in Hagåtña, Fu’una Cultures has become a well-known lunch spot for plant-based, organic, probiotic food and beverages that are both healing and delicious!

Open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, you can check out their whole-food, plant-based daily specials, and call in as early as 9 a.m. to place your order.

Check out their Instagram where you can also see all the ingredients for your meal. No matter what’s on the menu, you can be sure you’ll get a colorful and creative nourishing lunch.

Ignite Juice Bar

Now serving Guam with two locations (Dededo and Tamuning), Ignite Juice Bar serves fresh cold-pressed juices daily with smoothies and other healthy snacks.

A few of my favorites on their menu include the Green Beauty cold pressed juice, the Power Bowl, and the avocado, dill and seed toast. Plus, if you visit frequently, don’t forget to return your bottles and bring your stamp card.

Boka Box

This year, Boka Box had their 5 year anniversary! With their new location in Hagåtña, they are Guam’s first nutritionally sound meal prep service.

Choose from eight meal plan options including keto, plant based and a new reverse diabetes plan with pick up or delivery options. In addition, you can also pick up a grab and go meal from their cafe open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and they offer free virtual nutrition consultations!
